PACKAGING

Reducing and using packaging efficiently

How do we reduce packaging?

Packaging presents a particular challenge for the fashion industry: it must reliably protect our products throughout the supply chain, while at the same time requiring the use of materials and potentially generating waste. That is why we work to avoid and reduce packaging wherever possible, use recycled materials, and continuously improve existing packaging solutions.

For paper and cardboard, we rely on recycled and certified materials: all paper boxes used across our entire operations are made from 100% recycled, FSC-certified paper. We also use recycled materials for plastic packaging. Our manual dispatch bags are made from 80% recycled plastic. For machine dispatch bags, we are working towards achieving a PCR content of 30% in the future. For returns, we use poly bags containing at least 80% recycled material.

Reducing and using packaging efficiently

How do we reduce packaging?

At the same time, we are working to avoid packaging from the outset. We consolidate product samples, colour samples and prototypes in shared bags, thereby reducing the packaging volume required. This allows us to save resources while still ensuring the necessary protection of our products.

Our packaging approach covers all sales channels – from supplying our wholesale partners and our retail stores through to e-commerce. Particularly along our B2B supply chain, we consider packaging and logistics together in order to make processes more efficient and to use packaging in line with actual needs.

We also focus on efficient processes and minimising material use when it comes to returns. Through our Online Return Centre, we are able to avoid including a return slip, thereby saving paper. We no longer include invoices with e-commerce shipments either, instead sending them digitally to our customers.

In our stores, we continue to do without single-use plastic bags. Instead, we use recycled paper bags as the standard alternative.

Recycling and Waste Hierarchy

What happens to the remaining packaging waste?

Where packaging waste is generated, we prioritise recycling wherever technically feasible. Paper and cardboard from product packaging and logistics are recycled almost entirely. Plastic waste from poly bags and other packaging materials is also recycled wherever possible. Non-recyclable residual quantities are sent for incineration or landfill.

In doing so, we follow the waste hierarchy: avoid, reduce, reuse and recycle. Our goal is to continuously reduce material use and packaging waste while ensuring product protection throughout our entire supply chain.
