Cardigans for Men

30 Items

What types of men's cardigans are there?

Men's cardigans, open-front knitwear that's easy to put on and take off, come in various styles. At Tom Tailor you'll find versions with a button placket as well as ones with a zip, plus collar shapes like the Kent collar. In terms of pattern there's plain knit, cable knit and check, from fine to chunky and thick. A cardigan with a zip looks sportier, a fine one with a button placket smarter. Most are made of cotton, some with a cashmere content for a softer feel. Which colours and knits are currently available is shown in the overview.

What can I wear under a cardigan?

Almost any top works under a cardigan. For a classic look, wear a shirt whose collar stays visible above the cardigan. It's more casual with a T-shirt or a long-sleeve top underneath. On colder days a thin roll neck works too. What matters most is that what you wear underneath isn't too bulky, so the cardigan hangs loosely.

What's the difference between a cardigan and a jumper?

A cardigan and a jumper are both knitwear, but they're worn differently. A cardigan is open at the front and closes with buttons or a zip, so you put it on and take it off like a jacket. A jumper is closed and pulled over the head. In short: the cardigan opens at the front, the jumper is a pullover. On cooler days you can even layer a cardigan over a jumper.

How do I care for a cardigan?

To keep a cardigan in shape, it's worth checking the care label. Cotton knit can usually be washed at a low temperature, ideally inside out and on a gentle or wool cycle. Cardigans with a cashmere or wool content are more delicate and often only tolerate hand washing. To dry, lay the cardigan flat so it doesn't lose its shape. Hanging it up can stretch the knit.
