When do you wear a linen shirt?
A linen shirt is the ideal companion for warm days, whether on holiday, at a summer occasion or in everyday life. The fabric is breathable and lightweight, making it especially pleasant in the heat. Tom Tailor offers linen shirts for men in relaxed fit and regular fit, in colours including white, black, blue, beige, brown and orange. The linen in many styles carries European Flax™ certification.
What fit should a men's linen shirt be?
- Relaxed fit: loose and airy, ideal for holidays and laid-back days. The shoulders sit comfortably and the shirt falls away from the body.
- Regular fit: a balanced cut, not too close or too loose, for everyday wear and smarter occasions
When is cotton better and when is linen better?
Both natural fibres have their strengths, depending on the situation:
- Linen is the better choice on very hot days. More breathable than cotton, it absorbs and releases moisture quickly and gets softer with washing.
- Cotton is softer to the touch, creases less and is more versatile across seasons. Many Tom Tailor linen shirts also contain cotton or LENZING™ ECOVERO™ viscose, which adds softness.
What trousers go with a linen shirt?
- Linen trousers for a coordinated natural fibre look
- Chino trousers in beige or white for a smart summer look
- Jeans for a casual, relaxed style
- Bermuda shorts for laid-back days
Should you tuck in a linen shirt?
It depends on the occasion and your style. Worn untucked, a linen shirt looks relaxed and effortless, perfect for the beach, holidays or leisure. A half-tuck (front only) adds a little structure and defines the waist. For smarter occasions, a full tuck is the safer choice. As a general rule: relaxed fit shirts look great untucked; regular fit styles tuck in neatly.
