What kinds of jackets for men are there?
Jackets for men come for every season and every occasion. The most popular variations include:
- light transitional jackets for spring and autumn
- quilted quilted and puffer jackets that keep you warm without being bulky
- sporty bomber and blouson jackets for a casual look
- leather jackets in a cool biker style
- classic denim jackets
In colour, black, blue, green and brown are especially popular. Exactly which material and function a jacket has is stated in each product description.
Which jacket suits which season?
Depending on the temperature, different jackets are suitable:
- Jackets for spring: light transitional jackets such as a thin quilted jacket, a blouson or a softshell jacket – warm enough for changeable, mild days
- Jackets for autumn: slightly warmer transitional jackets, a lined quilted jacket or a fleece jacket as a mid-layer; water-repellent models protect against autumn rain
- Winter jackets: warmer models such as a lined winter jacket, a parka, a thickly padded puffer jacket or a down jacket, many of them water-repellent
- Summer jackets: very light, thin jackets such as a light blouson or bomber jacket for cooler summer evenings
That way you'll find the right jacket for every season.
Which jacket is the warmest?
How warm a jacket is depends above all on the filling and the construction. The warmest are usually thickly filled puffer jackets and parkas: their large, quilted chambers trap a lot of air and so retain body heat. A down jacket is especially warm for its low weight, while padded jackets with synthetic filling also keep you warm when damp and are easier to care for. On very cold days, a high stand-up collar, a hood and a longer cut are an added advantage. Light quilted and transitional jackets, by contrast, warm more subtly and are better suited to mild temperatures.
Waterproof or water-repellent – which jacket protects against rain?
There's a difference between water-repellent and waterproof. Water-repellent jackets let light rain and drizzle bead off, but aren't made for prolonged rain. Waterproof jackets withstand heavier rain too, often thanks to sealed seams. A softshell jacket is usually windproof and water-repellent while being stretchy and breathable – ideal for active days. If you want to stay reliably dry in wind and weather, look out for the terms "water-repellent" or "waterproof" in the product description.
How do I combine a men's jacket?
A jacket rounds off the look on the outside. With jeans and a hoodie or jumper you get a casual everyday look, and sneakers or boots suit it on your feet. What matters is that the jacket fits the occasion and the temperature: a light jacket for mild days, a warm, padded jacket for winter.
